Her ancestors came from the frozen Arctic and the mountains of Transylvania. That was over a hundred years ago, though Claire inherited their nomadic spirit, and zigzagged her way from western Canada through Halifax and Vancouver, before landing in Montreal where she has lived since 2008.
Music has been a part of her forever, as she grew up to the sounds of her mother’s violin performances and studied a variety of instruments: violin (of course!), bass guitar and a little jazz piano. The instruments that really made her fall in love though were the Technics 1200s she bought at 18. To start with, she would spend late nights playing records for hours alone in her bedroom each night, until the sky started to glow with light before the dawn.
Her first gig was in 2001, and since then the adventures never really ever stopped. From underground parties, clubs, and after-hours to festivals in nature around the world, music has taken her from Montreal to Berlin, Tokyo to Santiago, and Paris to Mexico, yet still, every time she steps up to play, the excitement is still there. She has performed at world-class festivals like The Techno Parade (FR), Piknic Electronik (CA + CL), MUTEK (CA), Garorock (FR), Future Forest (CA), Promise Cherry Beach (CA), and some of the world’s most unique and special clubs: Hoppetosse and Club Der Visionaere (DE), Salon Daome (CA), Stereo + Stereobar (CA), System Soundbar (CA), Air (JP), Tresor (DE) and Bushwick A/V (USA). She has opened for artists she loves, from Magda and Frivolous to Tipper and Maayan Nidam. She even did an impromptu b2b with Sonja Moonear at an afterparty in Chile in 2016!
Though she has travelled far and wide performing her music, Claire is still a bit of a hidden gem. Authentic underground experiences are always preferred over anything commercial, and her circle of artist friends and mentors ensures that there is never a dull moment on Planet Claire.
